The Republican Conference is voting now. The two candidates for Speaker are Reps. Jim Jordan and Austin Scott. The four amendments to amend the Conference rules were tabled or withdrawn this morning so a successful candidate will only need to garner a simple majority of the Conference to become Speaker-Designate.
It is unclear when House Republicans will go to the floor as there are many absences on both sides of the aisle today. We have heard that Rep. Jordan’s team is interested in moving quickly if he wins in Conference, but no decisions have been made. We will keep you posted as we hear more.
The Republican Conference just held a second vote to confirm that Members would support Speaker-Designate Jordan on the House floor. 152 Republicans voted to confirm they would support him on the floor while 55 of his colleagues voted against.
Timing for a potential Speaker election on the House floor remains unclear.
